Recent Work
Water Resources
Water is one of our most impactful natural resources, and here in the Pacific Northwest, there’s an ever-present need to manage it. Our environmental engineers have participated in many water resources management projects, including stream and riverbank enhancement, wildlife support, and stormwater and wastewater management.
Streambank Stabilization
Eagle Creek, OR
Project entailed the placement of rock barbs with root wads integrated into the rock structures. The stream banks were re-shaped and stabilized with a burrito roll style geo-matting and planted with native riparian species. The project involved securing state and federal permits for water work.
Yale Dam Stream Stabilization
Cowlitz County, WA
FDG prepared a water way improvement design for approximately 230 linear feet of a severely incised stream located near the Yale Dam in Cowlitz County, WA. FDG performed the hydrology/hydraulic analysis to evaluate weir stability during high flow events and prepared the construction plans.
Alder Creek Fish Passage
Portland Water Bureau
Sandy, OR
FDG prepared the civil design and project specifications for a step pool series fish passage at a municipal water diversion structure. The fish passage adhered to NMFS and ODFW criteria. FDG developed the hydrological flow model for the stream flow using a regression analysis and hydraulic calculations/modeling for the flows through the weir structures.
Tillamook Site Improvement No Rise Analysis
Tillamook, OR
Firwood assisted a private property owner with a no-rise analysis to evaluate the impacts of proposed development on the property. Firwood developed a HEC-RAS model to evaluate the site grading and no-rise impacts, prepared a no-rise analysis report and the permitting application documents to facilitate land use approvals from the City of Tillamook.
